Abstract :

The paper presents the results of analysis of spatio-temporal variability of beginning dates, end dates and duration of agricultural thermal seasons in the Lublin Region in the context of the observed growth of air temperature. Time series of average monthly air temperatures from nine weather stations located in Lublin Voivodeship (Bezek, Czesławice, Lublin-Felin, Puławy, Terespol, Tomaszów Lubelski, Uhrusk) and on its perimeter (Sandomierz and Siedlce) for the years 1981-2010 were used in the analysis. Statistically significant growth of average yearly air temperature at six stations was detected. The consequences of this growth are shifts of the beginning and end dates of thermal seasons, and changes of their duration. Durations of farming period, growing season, intensive growing season and ripening period were found to be longer in comparison to the respective durations for the period before 1981. Non-growing seasons and thermal winter seasons were found to be shortening. Beginning dates of thermal seasons were earlier in spring and end dates were later in autumn. Consequently, non-growing seasons and thermal winter seasons began later and ended earlier.
