WP2: Electrical measurements methods of porous material properties
WP2: Electrical measurements methods of porous material properties

Person responsible in the Centre: Prof. Marek Malicki

Objectives:
  • promotion of European cooperation in the field of electrical measurement of porous material properties,
  • widening the research scope of the Centre on the selective methods of measurements of electro-physical processes in porous media,
  • development and implementation of modern techniques and methods in monitoring physical and chemical properties of environment.

Field installation of TDR data logger

TDR probe field setup
Deliverables and milestones for the package:
  • widening the research scope of the Centre on the selective methods of measurements of electro-physical processes in porous media,
  • contribution in research consortia to submit proposals in FP6,
  • verification, unification and generalization of the existing conversion functions relating electrical voltage or current to physical properties.

General activities:
  • organization and participation on workshops, conferences and summer schools,
  • visits in European Research organizations for the exchange of experience,
  • preparation of the Centre to enter key actions of EC connected with environmental measurements,
  • publications of related materials in the form of folders and Application Notes.

Portable TDR soil moisture, salinity and temperature meter
Examples of activity realized within the WP2:
  • development of Time Domain Reflectometry method for simultaneous determination of soil moisture and salinity,
  • adaptation of measurement methods and instruments used for soil to other porous materials used in food industry, storage and building industry and vice versa,
  • enhancing existing measurement devices for soil-plant-atmosphere monitoring with wireless communication options.
