WP5: Surface physical chemistry of soil and plant

Person responsible in the Centre: Dr hab. Grzegorz Józefaciuk

Objectives:
  • increase networking and improving links with outstanding centers in European Union, Candidate Countries and Associated States (Russia) in the field of research and method development in physical chemistry of soil and plant materials,
  • featuring new disciplines in soil and plant chemistry,
  • attract new researchers to current soil-plant topics,
  • increase participation in FP6 of EU.
Deliverables and milestones for the package:
  • establishing new and improving recent links with other institutions by organizing missions and common research works,
  • joint scientific publications,
  • linking theory and practice,
  • performing training courses for young researchers in the field of plant and soil physical chemistry,
  • organizing workshops.

General activities:
  • introducing new theoretical and practical approaches for studies of plant and soil specific surfaces,
  • evaluation of closer interdisciplinary links between physical chemistry of soil and plant and other scientific disciplines to broaden knowledge and development of new experimental techniques,
  • increasing understanding of soil physicochemical processes for creating new possibilities to defense soil degradation (acidification, heavy metal and organic pollution, alkalization, salinization, structure destruction).
Examples of activity realized within the WP5:
  • seminars on WP5 and invitation to joint research with the Institutes of long lasting scientific cooperation from Budapest, Hungary and Minsk, Belarus,
  • training Course for Young Research Workers "Physicochemical and physical methods of studies of soil and plant materials. Theory and practice" for foreign and domestic PhD and MSc students and researchers, Lublin, November 2003.
