WP6: Relationship between soil physical characteristics and root and shoot growth and plant water use
|
Objectives:
- improve methods of studying root growth and function in relation to soil physical behaviour,
- strengthen collaboration with foreign collaborating research centres,
- evaluate relations between spatial distribution of roots and soil physical conditions.
|
|
|
Deliverables and milestones for the package:
- better understanding on the topic how agriculture can be managed in environmental friendly way,
- proposal to European FP,
- introduction and application of modern physical methods into Centre's laboratory,
- scientific publications from the work financed by the program.
|
General activities:
- workshop to compare methods for assessment soil physical characteristic and crop response,
- visits of foreign scientists in the Institute of Agrophysics PAS,
- organisation of workshop and training to graduate students,
- participation of foreign researchers in the project.
|
|
Examples of activity realized within the WP6:
- evaluation of spatial distribution of soil strength and water content as related to machinery traffic,
- determining root water uptake depending on spatial distribution of soil physical conditions,
- assessment of the effect of soil macropores on root and shoot growth of plants and water infiltration into the soil.
