WP6: Relationship between soil physical characteristics and root and shoot growth and plant water use

| |
| Objectives:

improve methods of studying root growth and function in relation to soil physical behaviour, strengthen collaboration with foreign collaborating research centres, evaluate relations between spatial distribution of roots and soil physical conditions.
| | Deliverables and milestones for the package:
better understanding on the topic how agriculture can be managed in environmental friendly way, proposal to European FP,introduction and application of modern physical methods into Centre's laboratory, scientific publications from the work financed by the program. |
| General activities:

workshop to compare methods for assessment soil physical characteristic and crop response, visits of foreign scientists in the Institute of Agrophysics PAS,organisation of workshop and training to graduate students, participation of foreign researchers in the project.
| Examples of activity realized within the WP6:
evaluation of spatial distribution of soil strength and water content as related to machinery traffic, determining root water uptake depending on spatial distribution of soil physical conditions, assessment of the effect of soil macropores on root and shoot growth of plants and water infiltration into the soil. |
